Readers, you’ll notice a new author on the blog. We’re running posts titled An introduction to the life of OnlinePRbook.com’s OPRA (Online PR Apprentice) Tristen Sechi:
I play many roles these days, but the most important among them are student, intern, sister, daughter, and friend. Something that I have never done is having an internship while simultaneously taking classes so I’m looking forward to this new challenge. I’m eager to see what happens when two of my roles morph into one responsibility and to report to you about my experiences.
I have always considered myself to be organized especially when it comes to managing my time. Doing this internship will most certainly help me further this skill.
Having computer failure is quite catastrophic for me because pretty much my entire life is on my laptop. It’s hard to admit, but it is entirely true. My laptop is home to my schedule, all of my writing, the syllabi for all of my classes, and most importantly, all of my e-mails!
Please attempt to imagine the utter dismay that I was experiencing this week when my computer began to systematically fail on me one minute after the next. First something was wrong with the sound, and then the entire system began to crash on me.
I found myself utilizing my school-purchased day planner again which was very uncomfortable because I really enjoy the pleasure of having minute-to-minute electronic alerts notifying me of important things rather than going back to my hand-written planner for a reference point. Funny how something so common now seems so primitive. The upside to using my planner again is that it has fun stickers to play around with if I’m feeling like I need a blast from the past. (I know I’m not the only one who had a sticker-book collection!)
I had a very long phone call with my computer manufacturer (about 70 minutes to be precise) where they were able to manipulate my computer from wherever they were to try and diagnose the issue. It turns out that I need a new mother board for my system.
What’s good, though, is that my school has high-speed computers available in the library to use, plus I have an external hard-drive that has more memory available to it than I actually know exists. Needless to say, I will be using those amazing computers until my laptop is fixed.
The laptop failure, though, made my first week of interning very difficult because I didn’t have my “homebase” system to rely on. I’m happy to announce that my new motherboard, along with system DVDs, has arrived and I will hopefully have a fully functioning system by Wednesday afternoon.
