Soon it will be time for magazines to publish 2010 editorial calendars. These are great opportunities to get PR or press, both online and offline. An editorial calendar shows you what topics reporters are going to write about for the year. Then if your business fits then you email them a pitch and you might get coverage.

Editorial calendars offer one of the best glimpses inside a magazine and can help you get the press you deserve. After all, if a local magazines is planning to write about local Realtors, and you’re a local and successful Realtor, then you need to find out if and how you can get featured in that issue.

Here’s where it can help with your online PR – many magazines republish their stories online. Then you can blog about and link to the story on your web site. Share it on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and with your email list. If it’s big coverage you can send out a press release and/or put a logo from the business on your site and say, “as seen in” or in your news section. This is great to build credibility. It’s also a great way to reach new audiences and apply what you learned in my book, I Need a Killer Press Release, Now What???

To find editorial calendars go to the publication or try a Google search for “2010 editorial calendar” or get more specific in your search by adding more descriptive words. For the new year I’m going to focus on getting more interviews and media about online PR and press releases — my favorite subject and what I’m most passionate about.

Another way to get coverage is to subscribe to HARO – a newsletter sent 3 times a day during the work week. It is a list of journalists and bloggers who are writing stories and need sources. So, if they’re writing about realtors who specialize in short sales and that’s you then you can email with your story and hope they contact you. I skim it for ideas on press releases topics and to be informed of what journalists are interested in RIGHT NOW. Best of all it’s free.

You can also advertise your product on HARO. I advertised my new Killer Press Releases DVD last week. So far we have gotten sales from the ad and I hope to do another.
