What is Online PR?

“Don Middleberg coined the term “Online PR” in 2001 and attempted to claim the Internet back then for the PR industry. He pointed out that PR is about a brilliant idea communicated through various forms of media and online was the next form.”
I define online PR this way: Creating and spreading goodwill and visibility for your business on the Internet. Tools used include press releases, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other social tools and sites. It’s essentially building word of mouth advertising but using the Internet so it’s seen by more people and for much longer.

I have been in the online marketing industry for over 5 years with expertise in online PR. I have worked with numerous small and large businesses on their online PR strategy. Previously, I spent five years as a web programmer working on large corporate web site and as a community organizer (yes, like Obama).
